Gifts in the Middle of Nowhere....

Happy 4th of July. Hope your day was full of blessings, family, fun and a sense of pride for living in such a great country. How did you spend your day? What made this year special?
As most of you know, this marks the first 4th of July my dad isn't with us. Although it really, really saddens me that life goes on without him here sometimes.... The great memories of cook outs, a lot of company, and awesome fireworks shows ..... really made me appreciate the awesome dad I had.....
Our 4th of July was different.
We started the day out at Maeci's basketball game.
Instead of a cook-out, we ate out at a restaurant.
Fine Mexican Food & and an even finer Margarita.
We had three basketball games total today beginning at 10:30 a.m.- and the last ending at 9:00 p.m.
My cutie nephew and niece Cody and Cali came home with us to spend the night...
I told the kids to watch out the windows for fireworks on the way home.
and Cody said that we should see a lot because on the way to my house from his there's a little bit of town and a lot of middle of nowhere.
And of course, everyone knows that fireworks are all in the middle of nowhere.
Guess what? He was right.
In all of that middle of nowhere on our way home...we got the best free gift, and many people shared their beautiful fireworks with us without even knowing...
So fun listening to the kids "ooh and ahh" in the backseat.

So, while we didn't celebrate as we normally would...I have to say we have a lot to be thankful for...on this 4th of July.

7 people got crazee and lived to tell about it:

Great post.. Nothing like seeing fireworks from out on the prairie. I try to explain to people that it's so flat here you can go out in the country and just watch fireworks from all directions.. Only in mid america!

Hey Juls...my 4th was different as well. One thing that changed this year is moving from Seattle to Boston. My whole family is in Seattle so I wasn't able to spend it with my family as I normally would. We just stayed home to be with Riley because it was his first 4th here and I didn't know how he would be. We had no fireworks close by but we saw the fireworks show from our apartment window and listened to the music on the TV..it was really cool to see the big show and not have to deal with the crowds! Our backyard at this apartment is the water so no one close by could light off any fireworks:)

Sounds like you all had a great day celebrating family and togetherness. Isn't that what this holiday is about anyway? American families doing just that? I think so. :-)

Sounds like the best kind of day! I love seeing the fireworks without hearing them or being in a crowd.
